Photoshop plug-in filters are files with an ".8BF" extension. Photo Editors that support Photoshop plug-ins typically have a "Plug-ins" folder or sometimes a further "Filters" folder.
Examples of install folders:
Photoshop CS3
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Plug-Ins\Filters (or similar)
Photoshop Elements 7 (Default)
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Plug-Ins\Filters
Corel Paint Shop Pro X2
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2\Languages\EN\PlugIns
If you have problems it is a good idea to search for the location of other "8BF" files in your Photo Editor and install virtualPhotographer in the same folder.
64-Bit
virtualPhotographer works on all 32-bit versions of Photoshop (up to CS3) on both 32-and 64-bit operating systems. Vista 64 for example will work using CS3. Photoshop CS4 comes with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions and the default installer will install both on a 64-bit system. virtualPhotographer is not compatible with CS4 64-bit on a 64-bit system. However we do have users successfully using virtualPhotographer with CS4 in 32-bit mode on 64-bit systems. The install path for virtualPhotographer in this case is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS4\Plug-ins\Common
Philosophy
virtualPhotographer is designed to allow photographers familiar with traditional camera usage and terminology to easily create photographically rich and artistic results from their digital images.
Technique
The operating principle of virtualPhotographer is to offer many "one-click" photo-effect options that give, or get close to, a desired result. If needed, simple adjustments can then be made to get exactly the shot being sought.
