HELP
1.  Installing virtualPhotographer
virtualPhotographer comes with its own
installer that looks like this:

Once you download virtualPhotographer you should see this icon on your Desktop. Run the installer, select the language and you will see the startup screen as follows:
2.  Starting virtualPhotographer in your Photo Editor

Once you have installed virtualPhotographer you will need to restart your Photo Editor and open an image. virtualPhotographer will appear on the "Effects" or "Filters" menu as optikVerve Labs. The example below shows Photoshop Elements 7:
Photoshop plug-in filters are files with an ".8BF" extension. Photo Editors that support Photoshop plug-ins typically have a "Plug-ins" folder or sometimes a further "Filters" folder.

Examples of install folders:

Photoshop CS3
   C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Plug-Ins\Filters  (or similar)

Photoshop Elements 7 (Default)
   C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Plug-Ins\Filters

Corel Paint Shop Pro X2
   C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2\Languages\EN\PlugIns

If you have problems it is a good idea to search for the location of other "8BF" files in your Photo Editor and install virtualPhotographer in the same folder.

64-Bit
virtualPhotographer works on all 32-bit versions of  Photoshop (up to CS3) on both 32-and 64-bit operating systems. Vista 64 for example will work using CS3. Photoshop CS4 comes with  both 32-bit and 64-bit versions and the default installer will install both on a 64-bit system. virtualPhotographer is not compatible with CS4 64-bit on a 64-bit system. However we do have users successfully using virtualPhotographer with CS4 in 32-bit mode on 64-bit systems. The install path for virtualPhotographer in this case is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS4\Plug-ins\Common

Read the Information screen and then select the Next button to go to the Select Destination Location screen as follows:
The virtualPhotographer Window will then open ready for use.
Philosophy
virtualPhotographer is designed to allow photographers familiar with traditional camera usage and terminology to easily create photographically rich and artistic results from their digital images.
Technique
The operating principle of virtualPhotographer is to offer many "one-click" photo-effect options that give, or get close to, a desired result. If needed, simple adjustments can then be made to get exactly the shot being sought.
4.  How virtualPhotographer Works
virtualPhotographer is designed to be familiar to traditional photographers. The filter can simulate the film type: "Film" or "Slide", the speed of the film to adjust grain, the emulsion of the film: "Warm", "Cool", "Green", "B/W", colored filters placed in front of the lens, and various darkroom effects and tints that can be applied to the print. Presets allow all of these adjustments to be made with just one-click. Simply select between the various Presets until you find one you like. virtualPhotographer "Presets" are designed to work on many different image types, from landscapes to portraits, so you are likely to find a number of Presets that work well with your image and yield the artistic results you desire.

virtualPhotographer works very like Photoshop does. It implements layers and can blend these layers using various modes. virtualPhotographer also implements a pixel-editing engine whereby it can modify the RGB values of each pixel and map these changes to curves related to the overall images so that no step effects are apparent. virtualPhotographer also implements a B/W converter that can mix various proportions of each RGB channel and then tint the result. In addition virtualPhotographer simulates  colored filters before the main image processing is applied. virtualPhotographer also implement sophisticated film grain generator - probably the most complex piece of the program. Of course virtualPhotographer also implements many different color spaces and traditional graphics processing algorithms like gamma, curves, hue, saturation, brightness, contrast, and many more.
6.  Uninstalling virtualPhotographer
virtualPhotographer comes with it's own uninstaller. Simply go to your Windows Control Panel and un-install the program as normal. For example, under Windows XP use the Add or Remove Programs Control Panel. Click on "virtualPhotographer 1.5.6" and then click the Remove button

5.  System Requirements and Compatibility
virtualPhotographer is an 8-bit Photoshop Plug-in Filter that works on Microsoft Vista (32-bit) Windows XP, ME, and '98 operating systems. We are looking to create a Macintosh version

virtualPhotographer is a Photoshop-compatible plugin and as such requires a host image-editing program that supports Photoshop Plug-ins. Photoshop Plug-in Filters are files with an ".8BF" extension. Photo Editors that support Photoshop Plug-ins Filters typically have a "Plug-ins" folder or sometimes a further "Filters" folder.

Examples of install folders:

Photoshop CS3
   C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Plug-Ins\Filters  (or similar)

Photoshop Elements 7 (Default)
   C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Plug-Ins\Filters

Corel Paint Shop Pro X2
   C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2\Languages\EN\PlugIns

If you have problems it is a good idea to search for the location of other "8BF" files in your Photo Editor and install virtualPhotographer in the same folder. There are many Photoshop Plug-in compatible programs we have successfully tested virtualPhotographer with:

Photoshop from Adobe
Photoshop Elements from Adobe
Paint Shop Pro from Corel
Photo-Paint from Corel
Photo-Brush from MediaChance
IrfanView
Canvas from ACD
GIMP
PhotoSuite from MGI
Image Explorer Pro from CDH Productions
virtualStudio
... and many more.

virtualPhotographer requires a photo-editor that supports 24bit RGB images.
